Family of three found hanging in Kolkata’s Kasba, suicide suspected

The deceased have been identified as auto driver Somnath Roy (40), his wife Sumitra Roy (35), and their two-and-a-half-year-old son Rudranil Roy. According to police sources, neighbors alerted authorities after receiving no response from the family since Monday evening. Upon arrival, officers forced open the door and discovered the bodies. A suicide note was recovered from the scene, though its contents have not yet been disclosed.

Somnath Roy was reportedly struggling with significant debt, and sources indicate that on February 28, a creditor visited his home demanding repayment. Allegations have surfaced that the creditor also issued threats. However, officials are still verifying these claims. The police are also investigating whether the couple killed their child before taking their own lives or if any external factors contributed to the deaths. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause and time of death.
